When it came to planning this itinerary for a family of 5 to Africa, I was conscious of showcasing the best of the destination in a way that would suit all members of the family.

As first time travellers to Africa, I knew they wanted to have an authentic experience, meeting local people and feeling the pulse of Africa.

 

After a long flight I booked their first night in Johannesburg at an airport hotel.  Most travellers to Africa will head out on safari but I believe it’s important to settle, climatise yourself to the country and try to adjust to the timezone. Particularly when you are travelling with children.

 

From Johannesburg I flew the family to Kasane, Botswana so they could begin their safari experience in Chobe National Park.  This is a lovely introduction to the safari experience and for this reason I chose lodge accommodation.  After 1 day here, they had seen most of the Big 5 on both land and river safaris.

 

After Chobe they made the drive across the border to Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls,  to catch a private charter flight to Hwange National Park.  A true bush experience in a luxury safari tent, in a place that stole their hearts.  Despite the fabulous game experiences here and outstanding hospitality, it was the staff and people of this bush camp that remains in this families memory as the true highlight of this trip.

 

After a tearful goodbye we flew them back to Victoria Falls and then transferred by road to Zambia to their destination, a beautiful river lodge.  An all inclusive experience once again saw them tracking Rhino, visiting the Falls and once again a great family experience.

Time to say goodbye to the safari experience and fly to Cape Town to connect them to their next experience.  Understanding their love of nature I sent them to a National Geographic Lodge on the coast, 2 hours out of Cape Town.  Ticking whale watching off their bucket list amongst many other activities the family spent the last few days of their holiday amongst the coastal scenery, stunning accommodation and spectacular views.

 

An incredible experience for a beautiful family, one I will never forget.  Booking this family was one of the most precious moments of my travel career.
